Archery Links
A Plethora of Archery Information...
Site Reviews Target Equipment Submitted Bowhunting

Ok, so you've come to the obligatory "Links Page". Every site seems to have one. It just seems to be "The Law" to have a links page. The problem with having a links page is knowing how many links to have. I mean, how many is enough - or how many is too many? I looked around the web at other archery sites and almost all links pages have so many links that it's hard to decide where to even begin.

I've come to learn that the average archer doesn't need to be "spoon fed" and can usually find what they're looking for by doing a simple Google search. For those who disagree, CLICK HERE. This link will find enough archery links to keep you bust until you're too old to even draw your bow. For some of us, that may be sooner that we (I) would like to admit.

I'll post some links here without getting too carried away. If you have a link that you'd like to see posted here, CLICK HERE to email the link to me and I'll try to put it up here. When you do submit a link, please try to include your reason for wanting it to be posted. Thanks in advance for your input.

One last thing... I'm not much of a fan of link pages with a huge list of URLS (web addresses) and nothing more. I like to at least see a brief description of the site. But to go one step further, I plan to have a "Site Review" area (below) where I'll pick a website that I think will be of interest to our members and I'll do a review of that site and explain why I think you'll like it. No promises as to how often I'll update this though. I'll see how it works out and if you like it, I'll keep it here.

OK, enough already - on with the links.......

WEBSITE REVIEWS
I'll try to post a new review each month of a website that I think you may find to be very interesting.

Matt Short's hunting video diary
This is the real deal. Matt Short is an average Joe with an "unhealthy obsession with the outdoors" who video tapes his hunts on public land under real world conditions. Matt is a bow-only hunter and is quite possibly out of his mind. Be prepared to laugh out loud as you watch this guy.

He shows the good, the bad and the ugly. You won't find any "canned" hunts or "ranch deer" on his show. Matt is a skilled editor and it shows in his footage. The only complaint I can come up with about this site and Matt's show is that there are too few episodes. I'm really looking forward to next season and you will be too.

I'm hoping to work out some sort of "interview" with this guy for the website. I'll keep you posted on that idea. So go now and check out some, if not all, of his episodes and let me know what you think. If you don't absolutely love his show, I will refund double your money back to you - no questions asked.

"See & hear what deer see & hear"

This may very well be one of the most amazing websites I've ever come across that is related to deer and deer hunting. Basically, what they've done is they have attached a wireless camera to the head of several bucks on this huge deer research ranch in Texas. These cameras are filming 24/7 and you can log on and literally see life through the eyes of a whitetail buck via the clips they have posted to this site.

The video quality is surprisingly good. At first, I thought it was a joke. I thought it was a fake head with a camera mounted to it. But I soon found that it's the real deal. You can see the Buck licking his nose and when he stops to drink from a pond, you can see his reflection - camera and all. You'll see everything from bucks feeding or sparring or running full-bore through the woods. The audio is amazing too. You can even hear them chewing their food.

So what good is a camera mounted to a deer's head? Well, I'm glad you asked. This setup allows you to see, up close and personal what the buck is eating. Did you know that they eat poison ivy? Oh yeah - believe it. And how about aquatic plants from a pond? - beneath the surface no less. Yep, they have video of a doe wading into a pond and submerging her snout only to pull back up with a mouthful of greens. Amazing!

And the camera is only one part of the website. They also have "The Deer Doctor" - Dr. James Kroll and he answers emails and does voice-overs while watching the deer camera footage. They even have a couple of whackos keeping things funny in the Deer Trax part of the site.

Once you watch one video, it will automatically load the next one. You'll obviously benefit from a broadband internet connection and dial-up users may have to wait a long time for these videos to load or it may be jerky as it loads. The bottom line is that you'll need to be prepared to spend a lot of time at this site watching awesome footage and learning some priceless information about deer.  "Told ya!"
